North Lamar Improvements State Funding (SB2189)
The board accepted $1 million in state money from Senate Bill 2189 to help pay for North Lamar improvements. The mayor will sign an MOU with the state, and the city must spend it within 36 months with quarterly reporting.
Oxford Square crosswalk lighting
Pedestrian-activated flashing lights are coming to crosswalks around the Square after the Board accepted the only bid at $149,095.87 — well under budget. The city street department will install the lights.
Old Taylor Road / Chucky Mullins traffic signal
A traffic signal and left-turn lanes are coming to Old Taylor Road and Chucky Mullins Drive — a project residents at that end of town have wanted for years. Advertising for bids was approved.
Rural transit funding agreement
The 2026-27 5311 Rural Public Transit Program agreement for Oxford University Transit was signed into effect — keeps federal-supported transit service running.
North Lamar Corridor Improvements, Phase 1
The board approved advertising Phase 1 of the North Lamar overhaul, from the new roundabout toward Cincinnatus Boulevard, with the goal of a main-street look with buildings closer to the road and improved Varner Loop/Ivy Road intersection. This has been in design for a long time.
Bobby Street connectivity versus Western Hills neighborhood safety
The city wants Patterson Place Phase 2 to reserve a future road connection to Bobby Street, but Western Hills residents — several with kids near a park — packed the hearing against it. The commission threaded the needle: plat approved, but the connection stays paper-only right-of-way for now.
Canon Road Bridge Replacement
The flood-prone Canon Road culvert will finally be replaced with a full-size concrete bridge; the Board authorized advertising for bids.
Gertrude Ford Boulevard gas main relocation
Delta Utilities will replace the aging high-pressure gas main overnight to dodge daytime traffic chaos, moving it away from the new accounting school construction. No work after Wednesday nights on Ole Miss football weekends.
Pegues Road Extension to Commonwealth Boulevard
The Board formally adopted the preferred road alignment so MDOT can schedule its required public hearing — expected before Thanksgiving — as the draft environmental document sits with the Federal Highway Administration.
