Sanctuary City Designation
The White House has labeled Jackson a 'sanctuary city,' putting a national spotlight on local immigration and policing policies. That could trigger federal scrutiny or pressure, even though the designation may not match exactly what Jackson actually does. The practical stakes are how city officials respond and whether federal funding or police cooperation changes.
NASCAR track proposal
Jackson’s council has floated a NASCAR track as a tourism and money play, but nothing is decided yet. The real question is whether the city should spend public dollars and reshape land use for a payoff that might not show up. If you care about taxes, traffic or what gets built where, this is one to watch.
